Irene Petersen is professor of epidemiology and health informatics at the Department of Primary Care and Population Health, UCL, London. Her focus is on epidemiological and methodological research arising from electronic health records. She has a special interest in drug safety in pregnancy, but has been involved in many studies on infectious diseases, mental health, and cardiovascular diseases.

Irene Petersen is also part-time professor at Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Aarhus University.

Irene Petersen is part of the taskforce of international experts charged with developing regulatory guidance on reproductive and perinatal pharmacoepidemiology.

Irene Petersen teaches "Topics in perinatal pharmacoepidemiology" on Thursday 19 June 2025 together with Vera Ehrenstein.
