Professor Mette Nørgaard receives grant for project on prostate cancer.

Professor Mette Nørgaard has received a large grant from the Danish Cancer Society of DKK 1.96 million to pay for the PhD project “Prostate cancer – overdiagnosis and overtreatment”.

Prostate cancer is the most frequent cancer in men in Denmark. One in six men in Denmark will receive a prostate cancer diagnosis during his life. A major challenge in cancer is to distinguish between aggressive and indolent prostate cancer. This project will provide better knowledge about characteristics associated with indolent prostate cancer to avoid overtreatment.

The PhD project will be conducted by medical doctor Susanne Hamborg Larsen from Department of Clinical Epidemiology with professor Mette Nørgaard from Department of Clinical Epidemiology as main supervisor and co-supervisors professor Michael Borre, Department of Urology and professor Karina Dalsgaard Sørensen, Department of Molecular Medicine, all from Aarhus University Hospital.
