Department of Clinical Epidemology is hosting a 2-day course where you will learn from professors Olaf Dekkers and Rolf Groenwold as they guide you through randomized trials, observational studies, and topics like confounding, selection bias, target trial emulation, and pitfalls in database research.

Attendance: Participation is free, and lunch is provided. Registration is binding, and in-person attendance is mandatory. Participants will receive a course certificate.
About the course
This course introduces various topics in clinical epidemiology, ranging from design to analysis of clinical studies. We will discuss both randomized trials and observational studies. During the first day, topics include randomization, estimands, basic statistical analysis, and sample size calculations. The second day of the course focuses on observational studies and topics include confounding, selection bias, target trial emulation, and pitfalls in database research.
The course will be held in English.
Instructors
Professor Olaf M. Dekkers is affiliated with Leiden University Medical Center. He is a professor of research methodology and works as an endocrinologist. He has a focus on clinical observational research, meta-analysis, and guideline development. Professor Dekkers is also visiting professor at Department of Clinical Epidemiology.
Professor Rolf H.H. Groenwold is affiliated with Leiden University Medical Center, where he is professor of clinical epidemiology with a focus on methods for studies of medical interventions. He combines research of methodology with the application of state-of-the-art methodology in applied research. He is co-director of the postgraduate epidemiology training at Leiden University Medical Center.
