Large grant for breast cancer research
Professor Deirdre Cronin Fenton has received a grant of DKK 5,3 million from Sygeforsikringen danmark for the project ‘Modification of endocrine therapy adherence and effectiveness in women with breast cancer’.
Most women with breast cancer undergo endocrine therapy for at least five years, but side effects and other factors can reduce quality of life and make it difficult to adhere to the treatment. Yet, the treatment is essential for reducing the risk of recurrence and death from breast cancer.
The aim of the new project is to identify factors that may determine whether women complete the treatment or not and to identify vulnerable patient groups who are more likely to discontinue treatment. This knowledge can be used to target support for completing treatment, thereby improving the women’s quality of life and chances of survival.
